Hi John,
Run for Something started with a simple theory: That Democrats could win sustainable, permanent power by investing in down-ballot races and young progressive candidates.
For years, this has mostly been a theory.
Now, we have powerful proof that our model WORKS.
I'll explain more in a second. But if you already believe in the Run for Something model, chip in $5 or more to close our 2020 budget gap so we can continue our work to keep electing young, diverse progressives to state and local office >>
What's this "proof of concept," as the business types say? Harris County, Texas.
In 2018, Run for Something helped
Lina Hidalgo defeat an 11-year Republican incumbent to become the new County Judge (which is an executive role in Texas, not judicial). The seat would've been a gimme for Republicans if Lina didn't take the leap, but thanks to the support of Run for Something, she did.
This year, in the face of a deadly pandemic with public safety being a chief priority,
Lina overhauled the county’s election infrastructure and secured new funds to do so -- going from an underfunded $4 million budget to a robust $31.4 million.
Her impact can be seen in voter turnout comparisons:
With Lina providing responsible governance, bold leadership, and progressive values in Harris County -- the state was called a "toss-up" by experts, and Republicans went from winning Texas by 9.2 points in 2016 to just 5.6 points four years later. This is what happens when we invest in down-ballot races and community organizing every year instead of every four years.
That's the kind of power
every community needs.
And the Run for Something community -- you and the thousands of supporters like you -- can make it happen. Imagine if we elected a Lina Hidalgo in every county in Texas, or better yet, in every county in
America.
If you're ready to build sustainable, permanent power for Democrats and progressives in every state and county, chip in $5 or more to keep electing young progressives like Lina to state and local office.

Thanks for all your hard work, let's keep it up.
