More than 5,000 New Yorkers are coming down with the coronavirus every day, hospitalizations are on the rise, millions are unemployed and worried about paying the rent or getting kicked out of their homes.
The second wave is here, and Congress is doing the unthinkable:
Nothing at all…
The truth is, it is long past time our governor stopped indulging the fantasy that Mitch McConnell is going to find a conscience and come to our rescue.
We need action now, and one common sense solution Governor Cuomo should pursue immediately is working with the legislature to tax millionaires and billionaires to raise the revenue needed to help families through the COVID crisis.
Now, there may be some disagreement in Albany whether asking the wealthiest among us to pay their fair share is a good idea, but in communities across the state, the idea enjoys the support of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike.
Most of us are doing all we can to get through this second wave. We’re wearing masks. We’re socially distancing. People are canceling or scaling back holiday plans and travel.
Surely people who can afford to do a bit more, the most fortunate among us, can chip in to help those struggling — especially with a vaccine getting closer every day.
