John,
Senator Lindsey Graham needs to step down from his role as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Earlier this week, we learned that Graham spoke to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and apparently suggested that he toss out all mail-in ballots from certain counties—tossing out thousands of legal votes apparently to improperly give the state to President Trump. This is outrageous. It is anti-democratic and undermines the integrity of our election system. Graham should step down from his leadership role chairing the Senate committee that oversees our legal system. For more, read and share CREW’s statement.
Joe Biden is the president-elect, and will be taking office on January 20, 2021, no matter what Graham or anyone else tries to do or say.
In the meantime, GSA Administrator Emily Murphy’s refusal to recognize Biden as the president-elect could have serious consequences for his team’s ability to respond as effectively as possible to the out-of-control coronavirus pandemic and to any number of national security threats. Congress should hold a hearing immediately on Murphy’s dangerous stonewalling. In the meantime, CREW is investigating.
This is serious. Casting doubt on the election and pressuring a secretary of state to throw out legal votes is deeply damaging to our democracy—and it could not be happening at a worse time. Peoples’ lives are at stake, and preventing the Biden transition team from communicating with agency staff, completing necessary background checks, and accessing needed resources could lead to an inability to tackle a deadly pandemic.
We’ve said from the beginning that President Trump’s corruption is dangerous, and we’re seeing it more clearly than ever. Here at CREW, we’ll keep up the fight against corruption, abuse of power, and anti-democratic attacks for as long as it takes.
Thank you for being a part of the fight,
Noah Bookbinder
