Dear John:

The Freelancers Union, an organization of thousands of gig and contract workers, has joined our movement to bring NYC into the future -- welcome to Team Lander!

Freelancers are standing with Brad because he understands that we can’t rely on old ideas to make the new economy work for all of us.

And this week’s public school debacle is an infuriating reminder that our city needs new leadership that puts bold, long-term progress over short-term, petty politics.

Our campaign is gaining momentum, but we can’t let up -- we had yet another opponent officially jump into the race, and we know for-profit developers and special interests are going to spend big to stop Brad. Can you chip in $20.21 today to keep our momentum going? Every $1 you give will be matched by $8 in public financing →

Are YOU a freelancer? We just launched a joint survey with the Freelancers Union to learn how we can help independent workers recover from the pandemic. Please take the survey and share it with friends! [[link removed]]

Brad worked closely with the Freelancers Union to pass the Freelance Isn’t Free Act in 2017 -- first-of-its-kind legislation that has helped NYC gig and contract workers recover millions of dollars in lost wages.

But he didn’t stop there. He teamed up with the Freelancers Union again to expand the anti-harassment and discrimination protections of the Human Rights Law to cover gig workers. Now, he’s pushing the City Council to extend paid sick leave to gig workers like Uber and Lyft drivers -- absolutely crucial in this dangerous pandemic.

Brad gets it: The rules of the economy have changed. Policymakers need to keep up, or else corporate lobbyists will find all sorts of ways around the worker protections we fought so hard for -- look at what just happened in California.

From the Freelancers to CWA to bold leaders like Tiffany Cabán, our movement is gaining steam because New Yorkers are done with petty, short-term politics and want long-term sustainable leadership that puts people first. Let’s build on this momentum -- $20.21 now, and your gift will be matched 9X by public financing → [[link removed]]

The pandemic has been incredibly hard on freelancers -- our previous survey showed 82% had lost contracts and income. As the next step in this partnership, Brad is teaming up with the Freelancers Union to ask freelancers about the challenges they are facing and their preferred solutions. Are you a freelancer? Take our survey. [[link removed]]

Thank you so much for your support,

-- Brad
