When supporters like you sent IJM staff and local authorities to find Kashi* in a Kolkata brothel, she was terrified, thinking we were there to take her and sell her to someone else.
You see, even though she was only around fifteen years old, Kashi had already experienced tremendous abuse, including the terror of being trafficked and sold — twice.
Today, when she looks back on that time, she compares it to living in thorns. It was a time in her life marked with tremendous pain. All she wanted was to be free to live in peace. And with your help, she is now able to pursue the life she wants for herself.
She says, “The path of my life was full of thorns which I had to cross through. And I did. There were so many people who helped me to get through. If I were alone, I could have never been able to come this far.”
You don’t just bring freedom to survivors of trafficking — you also make sure children like Kashi aren’t alone as they do the hard work of healing and growing in freedom. Plus, if you give by December 15, your impact will be multiplied, with generous donors providing an additional $400,000.
When our team last spoke with Kashi, it was clear that she no longer lives her life in fear. In fact, she is actively speaking out against trafficking, advocating for stronger laws and the empowerment of women across India!
