If we don’t act, millions of children worldwide will be denied an education because of the pandemic. Urge your members of Congress to fund programs that help children learn!

Dear John -

5-year old Emerance*, pictured above, absolutely loves going to school. She wants to be a teacher when she grows up. She lives with her parents and brothers in a refugee camp in Rwanda. Her school had to close because of the pandemic and she misses studying and playing with her friends.

Thankfully, Emerance has received books in her refugee camp, thanks to compassionate foreign aid funding from the United States. She’ll be able to keep her reading skills up and not fall too far behind.

But not all kids have access to programs like these. Recent estimates are that close to 1 billion children worldwide are out of school. Many of the most vulnerable have no access to distance learning or other resources to help them keep up with their education.

We need to ensure more kids like Emerance can keep learning while they are out of school, especially those who face the highest odds, like children in refugee camps.

Send a message to your members of Congress – support robust funding for international humanitarian assistance!

A devastating new report from Save the Children details how, for the first time in human history, an entire generation of children globally have had their education disrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic.[1]

This is particularly tragic for the most vulnerable children, such as girls and refugee children. They have the most to lose by not returning to the classroom where their road to a brighter future begins.

We can’t let a generation of children miss out on the opportunities provided through education!

We need to take action now. The long term legacy of the pandemic will be rising inequality and a devastating impact on children’s learning. Children like Emerance need to keep learning while they are out of school and return to school, once it’s safe.

Ask your members of Congress to support robust foreign assistance funding to help children worldwide achieve their dreams.

Thank you for being a voice for kids,

Mark Shriver, President
