Dear John,
We’re on the precipice of tremendous opportunity. When President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris take office this January, our country will have a White House that isn’t under the thumb of the NRA for the first time in years.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will face unprecedented challenges to undo the damage done by Donald Trump. We’re eager to collaborate with the new administration to build policies and champion programs that will finally turn the tide on the deadly epidemic of gun violence.
Our work in this arena has already begun: Giffords Law Center and the Center for American Progress partnered with partnered with several advisors, including legislators, practitioners, and lawyers, to prepare a series of memos providing meaningful guidance on what actions should be considered, as well as policy and legal analysis on how best to save lives from gun violence.
Our policy recommendations include creating an interagency task force on gun violence prevention, nominating a strong ATF director, prioritizing community violence prevention within the Department of Justice, and commencing a rulemaking process to ban “ghost guns.”
Thank you for standing with us,
Robyn
