This week when I addressed the Senate, I asked the Presiding Officer to wear a mask to protect the health of Senate workers in his close proximity.

He refused.

Sen. Ted Cruz took to Twitter to call me a "complete ass" and call my request for all senators to wear a mask, "idiotic." Sen. Cruz acted like senators were the only ones on the Floor that day, ignoring the presence of essential Senate workers and treating them as though they're invisible.

It's not idiotic to wear a mask. It's about leading by example, and it's about protecting everyone, including essential workers.

The CDC recommends everyone wear masks because scientific studies show they help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Senate Republicans' refusal to wear masks puts lives in danger. End of story.
