CLCV Member,

As a hectic election season comes to a close, we wanted to thank you for
your partnership in expanding and strengthening our democracy this year.

During this election cycle, CLCV led numerous efforts to create a safe and
participatory voting process truly representative of our state. We
spearheaded the campaign which led to Governor Newsom requiring every
Californian received a vote-by-mail ballot. We kept the pressure on as
your votes came in to ensure every vote was counted. And although we are
saddened Proposition 18 did not pass, we were proud to find success in
Prop 17- restoring the right to vote for more than 50,000 Californians on
parole!

[ [link removed] ]We still firmly believe in the power of an inclusive democracy, and
will continue this fight for future voters.

Prop 18 would allow first-time voters the right to participate in the full
election cycle if they were eligible to vote in the general election. 18
states plus Washington, D.C. have allowed those under 18 to vote in
primaries as long as they’re of age come November. While we weren’t
successful this year, we have laid the groundwork and will continue the
work. Engaging young people in the political process, removing barriers
and providing more opportunities, are key to a healthy democracy.

Your vote has the power to transform our political system, elect
environmental champions, and make bold climate action possible.

Senate Bill 423, alongside Assembly Bill 860 jointly addressed historic
issues of access and equity at the ballot this past election. These two
bills laid out critical protections to ensure voting would be safe,
secure, and accessible. We celebrated the Secretary of State and Governor
Newsom for swiftly passing and implementing this legislation- fully
funding in-person voting locations, universal vote-by-mail options, and a
robust voter education program.

The passing of these laws greatly impacted California’s election results,
as more voters participated in this election than ever before. [ [link removed] ]That is
why we need you to sign the petition to make this year’s current mail and
in-person voting options permanent for future elections.

It’s clear- when we fight for a electoral process that is fair and equal,
our democracy is stronger. This is just the beginning.

We believe that radical change is necessary and only by transforming our political system will we create the opportunity to take bold action on climate change. We elect and cultivate environmental champions, turn election victories into policy wins, hold our lawmakers accountable, and build political power for change. We inspire hope and action and fight for equity and justice for all Californians. We are in the business of changing what’s possible.
