Donald Trump's refusal to concede the election is no longer just undermining our democracy. 

Now he's putting the lives of Americans at risk by obstructing the Biden transition team from preparing to take control of the federal government on January 20.

Emily Murphy, the Trump-appointed administrator of the General Services Administration, is refusing to sign an usually noncontroversial bit of paperwork called an “ascertainment,” which simply states Joe Biden won the election and administration staff may work with his transition team. As a result, Biden and his team can't even talk on the phone with the White House Coronavirus Task Force members, like Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to push out wild conspiracy theories about election fraud to raise money for Republicans and his PAC.

With COVID-19 hospitalizations skyrocketing to all new highs, we can't let this madness continue. We're activating our millions of followers to knock down Trump's lies and demand that he stop obstructing the Biden transition.

Let's be clear: Trump's interference with the transition will have no bearing on whether Joe Biden will become the next president. Their only goal is to fuel Donald Trump's bruised ego and keep the money flowing into his campaign from those in his base who are still convinced he might win.

But Trump's refusal to concede is doing real damage, undermining public faith in our democracy as nearly half the country comes to believe that the election was stolen. And it's now undermining the basic functioning of the government as more than 1,500 Americans die a day.

So we've launched a three-part strategy to fight back:

• We need to aggressively knock down every baseless claim made by Trump and his lackeys, especially on the internet, where these lies spread fastest. Inequality Media Civic Action has a bigger following on social media than nearly any other progressive organization, positioning us to counter their lies on the spot.


• We must hold the Republicans who continue to enable Trump accountable. It's simply reprehensible how many Senate Republicans, from Mitch McConnell to Lindsey Graham, continue to validate Trump's lies.


• We will challenge the Biden team to fight just as hard as McConnell does, using every legal tool at their disposal rather than putting hopes in the idea that Biden can convince Mitch McConnell to compromise and collaborate (he can't and he won't).

Donald Trump is launching an all-out war on our democracy, and by kneecapping the transition, he is risking tens of thousands of additional COVID-19 deaths just to feed his ego.
