This is huge news — the Trump administration has just issued a "call for nominations" to oil companies — asking them to select areas of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge they would like to lease for oil drilling.

If Trump succeeds at fast-tracking these leases, it may be too late to stop the process. These would be official government contracts that can't simply be cancelled.

The Gwich'in people — whose way of life depends on the Refuge — are mounting a response to protect the land. We're backing them up by pressuring banks and oil companies to back out — but we need you.

Friend — the best thing you can do to help right now is make an emergency contribution. We're hoping to go all-out here, but after months of must-win political fights — the truth is we need your help to keep this campaign going.

Don't sit this one out. A donor is triple-matching every gift through the end of this month — even $5 will go a long way »

We have a real shot here — we CAN win this. Over the past year, the Gwich'in and the environmental movement have pressured major US banks to withhold any financing for Arctic drilling projects. At this point, with oil investments falling apart — frankly, it's an incredibly risky investment even for big oil companies.

We need to step up our pressure on these companies now. A short delay is all we need — President-elect Biden has promised to pursue permanent protections as soon as he's in office, we just need to make it to January 20.

This is a dangerous moment for the environmental movement, friend. It's not just the Arctic Refuge — already in the past few weeks, the Trump administration has opened up Alaska's Tongass National Forest to logging and other forms of development.

He stripped protections that had been in place for nearly two decades. Then, he followed it up by removing the scientist responsible for the National Climate Assessment, replacing him with a climate change denier.

Together we elected an administration with the strongest mandate for climate action and environmental justice in U.S. history. We can't let Trump slash and burn the environment in the final weeks of his term.

In the last weeks of Trump's presidency, we're making a major push to block Trump's final destructive actions in office. I hope you'll pitch in — any donation you make right now will be tripled.

Please, friend — make an emergency contribution today. Anything you can afford will make a difference, even if it's just $5. Every dollar will be triple matched»

We won this election friend. Fair and square. Voters turned out in historic numbers, especially voters of color and young voters across the country.

We voted for a just and equitable future that puts communities — including Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, as well as low-wealth communities most impacted by intersectional environmental injustice — at the center of solutions.

Thank you for making that win possible. Now that we're at the finish line, I hope we can count on your help again.

Sincerely,

Gene Karpinski
