Friend, my home state of Georgia is now the epicenter of the battle for the United States Senate.
And no matter how you hope that election ends up, please know that our nonpartisan Election Protection work to defend every voter’s rights will be more necessary than ever.
Here’s the good news: our volunteers, who’ve already spent months working in-person and from home to protect voters -- are ready to see this effort through. And now, even more are signing up -- because they know that this high-stakes election will likely bring new anti-voter threats we’ll need to be prepared for.
So, I’m writing to you today because I need your help to make sure we can field every single volunteer who signs up in the next few weeks.
After all, it’s a major resource commitment for Common Cause Georgia to train, equip, and place a sufficient number of nonpartisan volunteers. But that’s exactly what we did for this election -- and after seeing the impact it made, I’m convinced it’s worth doing it again.
You can make a major difference right now by sponsoring a Common Cause Georgia volunteer -- just $50 will cover all the costs associated to field one additional poll monitor or social media monitor. Can you step up today?
If you’re like me, Friend, you were thrilled to see so many Georgians -- many of whom had never voted before -- getting registered to vote, casting their ballots, and doing their civic duty over the past few weeks.
Now, with two high-stakes Senate runoffs coming up on January 5th -- it’ll be an uphill battle to keep those voters engaged and make sure that their ballots are cast and counted.
Why? Because sadly, some politicians see these voters as a threat -- which is why they’ve spent all year trying to disenfranchise as many eligible voters as possible. All year, we've seen them impose new obstacles to voting even during a pandemic, while trying to undermine the public’s trust in the integrity of our elections.
Just this week, our Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger confessed that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) pressured him to throw out legitimately-cast ballots in an effort to reverse President Trump’s loss in the state -- an attack on democracy at its core. [1]
But even as his
office pursues frivolous claims of voting irregularities, Sec. Raffensperger has admitted that Georgia's ballot-counting
process has been "transparent, orderly, and lawful." [2] Sadly, that fact won’t stop them from cracking down on voters.
Friend, the stakes are incredibly high, and unfortunately, we need to be ready for any number of cynical, partisan voter suppression schemes targeting Georgia’s voters -- particularly Black and Brown voters.
But Common Cause Georgia is ready to defend EVERY voter. We’ve been here in Georgia hard at work for years -- and we have the preexisting relationships, expertise, and grassroots base it’s going to take to get this done.
Make no mistake. Election Protection is one of the most important things we do here at Common Cause Georgia. It’s the fundamental step in keeping the promise of a government of, by, and for the people. And it’s never been more important than it is right now.
By sponsoring an Election Protection volunteer for just $50, you can make a huge difference by giving voters an ally at their polling place -- a knowledgeable nonpartisan volunteer ready and willing to help with any problems that arise.
That’s why I’m asking for your urgent, tax-deductible support to make sure our Georgia Election Protection effort is our strongest ever. Your help will make it even stronger. Can you sponsor a volunteer for $50 (or whatever you can spare) today?
Your immediate contribution will help ensure we can mobilize as many volunteers as possible -- to assist voters from home or serve at local polling places from the safety of their cars. Your help will go a long way towards making sure everyone has a fair say in our nation’s future.
Friend, elections should never be fodder for partisan politicians to manipulate -- and we can’t afford to let our officials politicize our elections or deprive Georgians of the right to vote during our runoff election.
Please help. The stakes have never been so high.
Thanks for your support,
Aunna Dennis, Executive Director
and the team at Common Cause Georgia
