Dear friends,
Two years ago, an idea started around a kitchen table. We wanted to give the residents of district 51 a voice. A voice that fights for a clean environment, common-sense gun legislation and a woman’s right to choose her own healthcare. Together, in 2018 we won by the slimmest of margins.
Tonight, it is with a heavy heart that I inform you that we, unfortunately, came up short this time---and it hurts.
We have many things to look back on with pride. We said Illinois trusts women to make their own healthcare choices and passed the Reproductive Healthcare Act (RHA). We passed the Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA) out of the House and it awaits Senate approval. Through hard work and determination, the Democratic party in Lake County has grown by leaps and bounds. Under the leadership of our Democratic Township Chairs a solid foundation has been laid for future elections.
I want to thank each and every one of you who has helped make this grassroots campaign possible. Because of each of YOU, we changed a very red district that no Democrat had even attempted to run for in 8 years--- to purple.
Democracy is a verb and now more than ever we need to stay in the game.
It has been the greatest honor of my life serving the people of district 51.
