I'm so proud to share this news with you -- I have a couple of exciting updates on measures I've been working on in Congress:
My bipartisan measure to end the dangerous cycle of violence in our communities is set to pass in the House today.
Violent crime has cost American taxpayers more than $42 billion, and that doesn't even begin to account for the emotional toll it takes on the victims and our communities. My measure would provide $10 million in federal grants to hospitals to expand innovative violence intervention programs that have a proven track record of reducing re-hospitalization and criminal activity while increasing employment among participants.

A companion bill for my plan to improve data collection and emergency preparedness in coastal communities passed in the House yesterday and is set to pass in the Senate tonight!
Our shorelines are home to more than 126 million people and contribute nearly half of the country's gross domestic product, amounting to $8.6 trillion. While climate change causes more extreme weather like hurricanes, it puts those Americans and our economy at serious risk. This measure would help coastal communities better understand vulnerabilities and improve resilience and disaster response.
I'm so proud of the progress we've made on these two critically important issues in Congress. Now, I need you. Will you add your name and show your support for my measures today?
Your friend,
Dutch
