It’s been two weeks since Election Day when voters like you across Wisconsin cast their votes.

Dear John,

It’s been two weeks since Election Day when voters like you across Wisconsin cast their votes.

The efforts to disenfranchise you failed because you demonstrated strength, bravery, and intelligence in a time when one party fought to grind down your enthusiasm and strip you of your right to a representative democracy.

Yet, you persisted. And now, we’ve got a new president with a climate change plan, we saved the governor’s veto power – our primary goal this election – so that we have a better chance at creating maps that don’t favor one party over the other. We now have a mandate expressed by the voters of Wisconsin to address climate change and other public health concerns like safe drinking water, racial justice, and a fair democracy.

We knew the dire importance of this election for a long time. And, we prepared. Those preparations became one of the most robust election campaigns in our organization’s history – mounted in spite of the inability to hit the streets and talk to voters in person due to COVID-19.

Let’s take a look at the numbers.

  • We achieved our primary goal to protect the Governor’s veto!
  • We won 80 percent of our top tier races – the contests that helped secure the veto.
  • We won 67 percent of the races in which we ran a field program.
  • 63 percent of our endorsed candidates won their races.
  • And, of course, President-elect Joe Biden won Wisconsin!

We’re proud to have worked with volunteers, colleagues, and allies across the state to achieve such progress. Thousands of voters like you wrote postcards, sent texts, made phone calls, worked the polls, and offered generous financial support to accomplish these results.

This campaign was defined by neighbors talking to neighbors, communities coming together to increase the power of their vote, and by your sheer will to battle through unprecedented challenges and deliver a brighter tomorrow for yourself and your neighbors.

Now, we have a governor with the power of the veto pen and a president who believes in science, giving us the power to take meaningful action on the most pressing issues of our time.

We turn our focus now to fair maps, equitable solutions to climate change, clean energy initiatives in local communities, and on how to ensure the Evers Administration governs for conservation voters and honors the mandate you delivered at the polls to protect our water, air, land, health, and democracy.

We’ll also hold those who seek to deny us our rights as voters accountable. We’ll continue to call out the hypocrisy of leaders like Speaker Robin Vos, who chose to give up the fight against COVID-19, costing hundreds of lives, and who cares more about corporate dollars and cheap political stunts than his constituents.

We’re thrilled with what we’ve accomplished together, and we’re even more excited to close this chapter and move forward together toward a healthy, beautiful Wisconsin for all to enjoy forever.

Thank you for being a conservation voter,

Kerry Schumann
