Today I joined immigrant advocates and members of Congress to introduce the Protect American Values Act, which would prohibit the use of federal funds to implement the Trump administration’s heartless “public charge” regulations.

As we have discussed in past emails to you, Friend, Trump’s public charge regulations are part of an effort to send families of color a message that if you’re not white and wealthy, you’re not welcome here.

Trump’s public charge rule would fundamentally change our legal immigration system, and experts estimate that it would result in large-scale increases in poverty, hunger, and unmet housing needs. Put simply, these new regulations will separate families and destroy communities.

That’s why we have to speak out against Trump’s new public charge rule and reject the use of our tax dollars to fund it.

Take two minutes to contact your members of Congress and encourage them to become cosponsors of the Protect American Values Act in the Senate — and of the No Federal Funds for Public Charge Act in the House.
