Dear John,

I joined Verified Votingโ€™s team in 2018 as a consultant based on my experience in election administration, expertise in risk-limiting audit implementation, and vision for better elections through better data and better processes. But I haven't always been an election data junkie.

When my daughter was in grade school, I volunteered intensively for a Presidential campaign in Pennsylvania. They put me to work as a "Voter File Manager", working with the voter registration lists. This was my first contact with election data and all its complications.

As a mathematician I started to wonder -- how could mathematics help protect elections? I dreamt of a huge collection of election data, with easy ways to slice, dice, analyze and draw compelling pictures, available early enough after the election to let candidates and their supporters analyze their own contests. I dreamt of the Vote Visualizer - and Iโ€™m deeply excited to be sharing the reality with you.

The Vote Visualizer is a neutral, scientific toolkit designed to help people understand patterns in election results. Interested in trends in the US Senate contests in Georgia? Try the Compare Counts feature. Interested in outliers in the North Carolina US House contests? Try the Explore Outliers feature. Interested in another state? We already have 2020 General data ready for visualization from 27 states, and the list is growing. You can start with this introduction, the Compare Counts video tutorial, or the Explore Top Outliers video tutorial.

The current Vote Visualizer is a "minimum viable product", with enough features to be valuable, but far from realizing all possibilities. With your help, the Vote Visualizer will only get better with more data and possibilities for analysis, so we can continue bringing clarity to election results.

With gratitude,
Stephanie Singer, Ph.D.
Data Scientist
Former Chair, Philadelphia County Board of Elections
