The Scottish Borders remains in COVID protection level two. If you need a reminder of what that means, you can take a look here. This is updated regularly so do always check back to see if there are any changes.

I know that the current restrictions are really hard and taking their toll on everyone in one way or another. However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel with the test results of some vaccines looking very promising.

I was proud to speak in Parliament this week about the importance of remembrance. When we are once again able to go out and live our lives, it will be as appropriate a time as any to pause for a moment and remember those who battled against tyranny to protect these freedoms that we hold dear.

In my last newsletter I told you that I was going to be participating in a Westminster debate on pet theft. This was because most signatures on the UK Parliament e-petitions website came from right here in the Borders. You can watch a few excerpts from my speech by clicking on the image above.

I am delighted that we have now exceeded our target of protecting 4 million sq km of ocean in the Overseas Territories. Tristan da Cunha, an overseas territory in the Atlantic Ocean got us over the line with a new Marine Protection Zone that will protect sharks, seabirds and penguins in some of the remotest places on earth.
