Since the beginning of the pandemic this past spring, the House has passed multiple rounds of COVID-relief legislation, including securing the right to clean water during the pandemic, supporting cash-starved states and local communities, and ensuring hazard pay for frontline workers and unemployment payments for those who have lost work.

Unfortunately, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has repeatedly blocked important people-centered COVID relief. But there is something that we can do.

Between now and January 5th, we have an opportunity to win back the U.S. Senate by electing two Democratic U.S. Senators from Georgia. Democratic candidates Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff have both advanced to runoff elections in their critical races. And mail-in ballots will begin mailing to voters tomorrow!

With Mitch McConnell and Republicans in the majority, people have been left to starve during the pandemic, while our taxpayer dollars have padded the pockets of the rich and powerful. Democrats need our help to rip the Senate gavel from Mitch McConnell’s hands!

This year, I helped pass a $1.5 billion Water is a Human Right fund during the pandemic, to protect people from water shutoffs and provide assistance for low-income families. And we passed a historic amendment that would provide a record $22.5 billion to finally replace lead-contaminated pipes, prioritizing communities facing environmental racism.

But Mitch McConnell stood in the way in the Senate.

The House also passed legislation to assist renters and homeowners to keep a roof over their heads during the pandemic crisis, with moratoriums on rent and mortgage payments and $175 billion in assistance. And we passed $200 billion to ensure frontline workers receive the hazard pay their sacrifices have earned them.

But Mitch McConnell stood in the way in the Senate.

We have ambitious goals for next year, especially now that we have regained control over the White House again. But we’ll be limited in what we can accomplish if Republicans continue to control the agenda in the U.S. Senate. We need your help!
