It’s a new era. This winter, Trump is out. Biden is in. And the President-elect has pledged to take strong climate action right away. But that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop pushing. Far from it. Now that we finally have a shot at strong federal climate policy, we need to work harder than ever. But it will take resources. It will take YOU. It... will... take... a Polar Bear Plunge! Start off the new climate era by taking the plunge along with Bill McKibben, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, and hundreds of climate activists. Together we will send a clear message to our leaders that climate change MUST be a priority in 2021 while raising vital funds for CCAN’s work. This will be our 16th annual Polar Bear Plunge. Just like a charity fun run, plunge participants take pledges from their friends and family in support of CCAN’s vital climate work. And, for the first time ever, the plunge will be VIRTUAL and NATIONAL! Rather than coming together in person, we will be coming together from our homes. We will hear from inspiring speakers via Zoom, and then all take the plunge from home. Afterward we will reconvene for an hour of camaraderie and laughs. By taking the plunge from home, YOU will choose how you plunge: jumping into an icy cold kiddie pool, dumping a bucket of ice water over yourself or going to a nearby body of water. The most important thing is that you and icy water come together for a brief moment on February 13th! Watch the video below to learn more.
We know it’s still a few months away, but that is time you can use to promote your plunge, build a team if you’d like, decide on your costume (encouraged), and bring attention to the climate. With the election behind us, it is time to focus on 2021. We must ramp up climate efforts locally and nationally. Passing climate legislation will not be easy. With potential challenges on Capitol Hill, states will need to step up more than ever to reach 100 percent clean electricity by 2035 with net zero emissions by 2050. This can only happen with all of us coming together, including raising vital funds for CCAN’s work. The funds raised will be used to advance climate work in Maryland and Virginia, and on Capitol Hill. Extreme challenges require extreme actions, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun along the way. Let’s face icy cold waters together.
