<[link removed]>Under the Obama administration, relations between the U.S. and Cuba were the closest they’d been in 50 years. Under Trump, the U.S. cruelly punished Cubans with brutal sanctions. President-elect Biden can stop the cruelty, restore many of the Obama administration’s policies on day one, and go even further in establishing normal relations.

Over the past four years, the Trump administration hammered Cuba with increasingly harsher sanctions that punish innocent civilians. This approach failed to do anything other than hurt ordinary Cubans and it represented a complete break with the Obama administration’s policy of seeking to normalize U.S.-Cuba relations.



So far, President-elect Biden hasn’t offered specifics as to what his Cuba policy will be, which means there’s an opportunity to push him and ensure that, at the very least, his administration reverses the harmful Trump policies and embraces the Obama-era policy of normalization. 



Join us in urging President-elect Biden to take action on day one of his administration to help the Cuban people by ending the sanctions and smears used by the Trump administration! <[link removed]>



Through executive actions, President Biden could allow the return of diplomats to their respective embassies and fully staff the U.S. Embassy in Cuba; lift all restrictions on remittances; remove Cuba from the list of countries that do not collaborate in the fight against terrorism; and make it easier for U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba. The incoming Biden administration should also stop sabotaging Cuba’s medical missions. 



Of course, this won’t stop the underlying problem of the U.S. wanting regime change in Cuba, nor will it stop the illegal and immoral 60-year blockade. There’s clearly a lot of work to be done before the U.S. treats Cuba with respect and friendship, but pushing Biden to undo the worst of Trump’s Cuba policy is an important first step.
