Kira should be here with us.

She should be celebrating all of the winners of this month’s election. She should be teaching the boys about why voting matters. And she should be crying with me over the significance of Kamala Harris’ historic win.

This woman made me far better than I ever thought I could be.

She raced cars, ran marathons, and had her pilot’s license. She was in exceptional health when we walked into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on April 12, 2016. We were blessed that day with another healthy son and she loved on him from the minute she laid eyes on his face.

We went to begin her recovery journey and she’s sitting in the bed resting. Then, I noticed blood in her catheter. The nurses came and examined her and ordered a CT scan - stat - so I knew this was something we needed to address quickly. I was concerned but at that time, around 4pm, I could live with what was happening because I understood that there was a plan.

At 6pm, an ultrasound showed that her abdomen is filling with fluid. She began to lose coloring and she was shivering. Hear the rest of Kira’s story:
