Goldfein Forecasts B-1 Cuts, More B-21s

The Air Force could cut the B-1 bomber fleet and use the savings to speed up B-21 bomber purchases and produce more long-range weapons, Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein said Sept. 17, providing a peek ahead at the fiscal 2021 budget request that will go to Congress in February. “Bomber aviation is in high demand,” he said, citing China as a potential adversary, and the fact no other ally has a bomber fleet. Multiple studies indicate more bombers are needed, Goldfein said, adding, “I’m 100 percent in lockstep with that.”
