Dear John,
The New York Times [[link removed]] just reported that Donald Trump asked his advisers for military options to strike Iran’s expanding nuclear program last week. While Trump was apparently convinced not to move forward, this underlines that this is a dangerous time for our country. As great as defeating Trump was at the ballot box, we are not out of the woods yet.
During these final days when Trump is in office, the risks of escalation - whether from our current President, or from America’s supposed partners in the region - may be greater than ever. They see the writing on the wall that the next Administration will soon work to take the U.S. and Iran off the path to war by returning to Obama’s successful diplomatic playbook. And so all sabotage options may be on the table, including war.
We will not let them succeed. Two years ago we launched the effort to ensure a new U.S. president would return to the nuclear deal. This past January, when war seemed imminent, we worked together to mobilize across the country with a powerful coalition of allies and key Members of Congress to stop a war. Now, we are in touch with our key Congressional allies and preparing to mobilize again to ensure this President doesn’t start an illegal war of choice to sabotage his successor.
Please consider supporting our vital work for peace. Make a donation [[link removed]] to help us get to the finish line of the Trump presidency and build a brighter tomorrow.
