Three Steps to Being a Better Ally to Trans and Nonbinary People (While You’re Stuck at Home)

Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean doesn’t mean your ally skills should slow down! So, stay safe and take these steps to engage:

  1. Learn: Check out straightforequality.org/trans to help you learn more about what you can do to be a better ally to individuals who identify as transgender and/or nonbinary, no matter where you are on your ally journey.
  2. Watch: Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, November 17th at 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT, for an interactive and engaging session of PFLAG Academy Online titled Supporting Our Trans & Nonbinary Loved Ones: What Would You Do? If you’re not able to join us live be sure to check out the session on-demand once it is posted at pflag.org/onlineacademy.
  3. Share: Use social media to help spread the word about this week’s Something to Talk About Live (with PFLAG leaders Stephanie Battaglino and Diego Sanchez!) and other virtual events in your community meant to commemorate Transgender Awareness Week  and the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Follow #TransgenderAwarenessWeek on social media to connect and share!

Advocacy

The TRANSlation Virtual Summit

In celebration of the premiere of the documentary Transhood, HBO has partnered with PFLAG National, Family Equality, and HRC to launch the TRANSlation Summit. The TRANSlation Summit will offer candid conversations about--and cater to--the transgender community, their families, and allies to create more inclusivity and understanding about the trans experience. The summit will take place THIS WEEK, November 17-19, at 7:00pm ET/5:00pm PT and can be viewed on HBO’s YouTube channel.

The three-day virtual seminar will bring people together for a series of informative, open-minded sessions and discussions. Each day will feature a keynote speaker followed by three moderated panel conversations leaning into a different theme: transitioning, growing up trans, and advocacy. PFLAG participants include our Director of Advocacy, Policy, and Partnership Diego M. Sanchez; Chapter Engagement Coordinator Shaun Connors, Raising My Rainbow’s Lori Duron, PFLAG Manhattan Beach’s Linda Reeves, and many more.

Something to Talk About...Live!

Join PFLAG National live this Thursday, November 19th at 4:30 PM ET/1:30 PM for another great live conversation. This week, we’ll be joined by PFLAG leaders Stephanie Battaglino and Diego Sanchez to discuss this article from Forbes, by writer Jamie Wareham.

Trigger Warning: The article selected includes discussion of anti-trans violence and hate crimes worldwide.

You can watch the broadcast live on FacebookYouTube, or Twitter
