Why Gold is Dazzling Investors During the Pandemic

In the last week of January, when the Covid-19 pandemic began to affect the world, gold prices hit a three-week high. Within that week in January, gold was up 0.4%, trading at $1 572 an ounce. Lester Davids, the trading desk analyst at Unum Capital, said the pandemic has created a risk-off sentiment — investors are gravitating towards lower-risk investments such as gold. Since January, the gold price has gone up by at least 25%, peaking in August at an unprecedented price of more than $2 000 an ounce, leaving companies with increased cash flows that they used to pay shareholders. Debunking the Bogus Case Against the Yellow Metal

Gold is about to embark on its third great bull run. Many analysts foresee gold hitting new record highs when this occurs. Now the third great bull market is underway. It began on December 16, 2015, when gold bottomed at $1,050 per ounce at the end of the 2011-2015 bear market. Since then, gold is up significantly, but its small change compared to 2,200% and 760% gains in the last two bull markets.

Here are the three main arguments against gold and why these analysts are dead wrong.

Indian Jewelers are experiencing a “dam burst” of gold demand in the market since the COVID restrictions were lifted in India. Now, a recent softening of the gold price has encouraged buying for the yellow metal during the festival of Dhanteras. Sales picked up from 11 am on Friday and jewelers are expecting sales during the day to cross those of last year’s Dhanteras. Leading jewelry trade body India Bullion and Jewelers Association (IBJA) has indicated a 35% increase in volume terms over last year.

Metals Prices Rise After Stronger Chinese Demand Reported

Markets remained on edge as vote counting continued in the US. However, a weaker USD helped boost investor appetite, with the ANZ China Commodity Index ending the session up 0.6%. The precious metals sector led the complex higher, with gold, silver and the PGMs all recording strong gains. The agriculture sector was also stronger, driven by gains in palm oil, soybeans and rice. Nickel led the industrial metals higher, with copper and zinc rising. Crude oil inched lower, while LNG extended recent gains. Bulk commodities were unchanged, with higher iron ore prices offset by a fall in coking coal. Gold prices pushed higher as the USD weakened and the prospect of more stimulus measures boosted investor demand. As the voting continues in the US election, the market appears to be betting a Biden victory. In addition, even though the chance of… READ MORE
