FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2020 "GUNS MAKE IT LESS SAFE": RAPHAEL WARNOCK WOULD WEAKEN THE SECOND AMENDMENT ATLANTA – Raphael Warnock is the most radically anti-gun candidate in America who for decades has actively fought to roll back the 2nd Amendment and eliminate Georgians’ right to bear arms. As a radical activist preacher, Warnock lobbied against gun rights both in the Georgia legislature and from his pulpit, where he asserted that “guns make it less safe and not more safe,” and condemned pro-gun laws as the "dumbest legislation.” He has mocked Georgians who exercise their right to carry as “crazy,” vocally opposed Georgia’s Stand Your Ground self-defense protections, and earned the endorsement of every far-left anti-gun group, including Brady PAC, Moms Demand Action, and Everytown for Gun Safety. BACKGROUND The Pro-Gun Control Brady PAC Has Endorsed Warnock and Contributed $5,000 to His Campaign – Brady PAC Supports “Universal Background Checks” and “Reenacting the Assault Weapons Ban” On June 8, 2020, Warnock received a $5,000 contribution from the pro-gun control Brady PAC. (“Everytown Announces Support for Jon Ossoff, Rev. Raphael Warnock in Georgia U.S. Senate Run-off Elections,” Everytown.org, 11/8/2020) Warnock Criticized Politicians Who Attend Church On Sundays And Then Write “The Dumbest” Gun Legislation “You Can Ever Imagine.” “And that’s why you’ve got politicians who go to church every Sunday morning, and then walk into that capitol, stand under that gold dome, and come up with the dumbest legislation you can ever imagine. ‘What we need is more guns, in more places, by more people.’ Think about all the crazy people you bump into just on the routine, every week. On your job, on the street, some of them in church – don’t look at ‘em. Imagine all them people with guns.” (Raphael Warnock, “Raphael Warnock – ‘Political Preaching!?!’ What do YOU stand for?,” YouTube, 2/16/2014) – VIDEO CLIP Warnock Attacked Stand-Your-Ground Laws “Then they come up with all of these clever names, ‘Stand Your Ground.’ No it’s not a stand your ground law, it’s a shoot first law. Shoot first, ask questions later. That’s why we’re here all over again.” (Raphael Warnock, “Raphael Warnock – ‘Political Preaching!?!’ What do YOU stand for?,” YouTube, 2/16/2014) – VIDEO CLIP Warnock Has A History Of Anti-Gun Statements, And Has Worked For Years To Take Away Guns And Restrict Georgians’ Right To Defend Themselves. On February 5, 2014, Warnock gave a speech opposing HB 875 to the Georgia General Assembly House Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security. In his speech, Warnock stated, “We do not want our sanctuaries and the environment of our sanctuaries to be further discombobulated and confused by the presence of guns.” Warnock concluded his speech stating, “it’s demonstrated in and clear that more guns make it less safe and not more safe.” (“pubSafe020514EDITED,” Georgia House of Representatives Channel, YouTube, 6/26/2019, Min. 1:20:41) – FULL CLIP, CLIPPED PORTION re: MORE/LESS SAFE In January 2014, Warnock Criticized HB 512, a Bill to Allow Guns to Be Carried in Churches, Bars and on College Campuses” as a “Lax” Gun Law In January 2014, Warnock attended a gun buyback event. Atlanta Daily World reported that Warnock viewed the event as “an opportunity to speak out against the possibility of the further easing of gun restrictions in the state.” According to the Atlanta Daily World, Warnock singled out HB 512, a bill which “would allow guns to be carried in churches, bars and on college campuses” as a “lax “gun law. (“Church Leaders Speak Out Against Georgia Weapons Laws at Atlanta Gun Buyback,” Atlanta Daily World, 1/16/2014) In April 2014, Warnock Opposed HB 60, a Bill to Allow Guns in Bars without Restriction and in Some Churches, Schools and Government Buildings; HB 60 Was Signed into Law – Warnock Described HB 60 as “this Is the Gun Lobby Foisting Their Agenda on Churches, and I Think It’s a Tragic Violation of Church and State” In April 2014, the Georgia legislature passed into law HB 60, a bill that expanded gun rights. According to the Associated Press, HB 60 allowed licensed gun owners to bring guns into “bars without restriction and in some churches, schools and government buildings under certain circumstances.” Warnock criticized HB 60 as “This is the gun lobby foisting their agenda on churches, and I think it's a tragic violation of church and state.” (“Gun carry rights expanded in Ga. under new law,” Washington Times, 4/23/2014) In February 2014, Warnock Opposed HB 875, a Bill to Lift Restrictions on Guns in Bars, Churches, and College Campuses – Warnock Stated, “We Reject the Notion that More Guns Held by More People Will Magically Make Our Communities Safer” In February 2014, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that HB 875 had received its first committee hearing in the Georgia General Assembly. According to the article, HB 875 “would lift restrictions on guns in churches and bars, allow school boards to arm employees and make an end run around a ban on licensed owners carrying guns on college campuses by making it no longer a crime.” Warnock opposed HB 875 stating, “We reject the notion that more guns held by more people will magically make our communities safer.” (“Religious leaders decry gun proposal,” Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 2/6/2014) ### Stephen Lawson Communications Director [email protected] Paid for by Georgians for Kelly Loeffler Georgians for Kelly Loeffler | 9755 Dogwood Rd Suite 340, Roswell, GA 30075 Unsubscribe [email protected] Update Profile | About our service provider Sent by [email protected] powered by Try email marketing for free today!
