Hi John,
I need to be real about state legislative races in 2020:
Democrats got our asses handed to us.
We failed to flip a
single legislative chamber held by Republicans -- we lost New Hampshire’s legislature and watched Republican majorities expand in other states. (Although I will say: Run for Something state legislative candidates flipped seats in some exciting places, including Oklahoma, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, West Virginia, and more.)
Unlike Republicans, Democrats as a whole have neglected essential infrastructure in the "off-years." We need long-term investments, not last-minute blank checks to blanket the airwaves. We've got a
lot of work to do.
Here's where we start: In the week after Election Day, more than 1,000 diverse, young progressives signed up to run for something.
If you're ready to do the unglamorous but essential work of helping them win in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and beyond -- and I suspect you are because you're part of Run for Something -- please chip in $5 or more to help recruit, train, support, and elect young progressives to down-ballot races nationwide.

Democrats talk a good game about long-term investments, but our follow-through needs work.
Republicans opened campaign offices in communities across the country after they lost in 2012 and never shut them down. The wave of money flooding to campaigns in the final stretch was a beautiful surge of support, but to be honest, much of it came in when people were already voting. And it's not a replacement for the difficult but game-changing work of showing up every month, every week, every day in communities and talking to folks.
The next wave of candidates is getting ready, and they need our help now -- not in 18 months.
They're rooted in their communities, so they have networks to rely on. They've been showing up for years, so people know they can be counted on. They're the face of the Democratic party to folks who mostly think about politics when they see it on cable news.
These 1,000+ new young people who signed up in the week after Election Day? They're how we win. Permanently.
But they can't do it alone. We need an effort as momentous as defeating Trump to make it happen, and we need to start building it now. Will you chip in $5 to help?
Thanks,
Amanda Litman
