Dear John
People often ask us: ‘How do you save giraffe?’ – This is a great question, but there is no simple answer. The first and most important step to saving giraffe is to realise that there is no blueprint or manual: giraffe live in 21 African countries, inside and outside of protected areas. They share their space with local communities, their livestock and/or wildlife; they live in a variety of ecosystems within a range of land management systems and conservation models; they face numerous threats as well as opportunities.
If you want to find out how we at GCF approach these challenges, have a look at our 2019/20 Annual Report. You can read more about the wide range of collaborative programmes and projects we are involved in to secure a future for all giraffe populations in Africa.
2019 marked the tenth anniversary of GCF as the first-ever giraffe conservation charity in the world: an appropriate occasion for us to reflect on what has been achieved, but also a timely reminder of all the challenges. However, one thing that always stands out for us is that we cannot do this alone – working with partners is the core of GCF’s values and conservation approach.
And since you are reading this email, you are one of these partners, supporters, donors and friends. So, THANK YOU for sticking your neck out for giraffe conservation in Africa!
