Dear Friends and Partners,

At the heart of HRC’s mission is the pursuit of justice for transgender, gender
non-conforming, non-binary and for all LGBTQ people. Whether you’re transgender or cisgender
[[link removed]] , we are in this fight together and none of our progress is possible without
you — our supporters. As we continue our fight for justice, our team wants to
keep you up-to-date on our initiatives, programs and partnerships. It is my hope
that this regular newsletter will be a resource for you moving forward.

In solidarity,

[[link removed]]BIDEN/HARRIS WINS AND SO DOES THE TRANS COMMUNITY
America voted in record numbers and spoke loudly. On January 20, 2021
President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president of the United
States and will enter the office with the clearest commitment to LGBTQ rights of
any entering president. The same holds true for Vice President-elect Kamala
Harris. We also celebrated historic wins for transgender and non-binary elected
officials — from State Senator-elect Sarah McBride’s historic win
[[link removed]] in Delaware to State Representative-elect Mauree Turner in Oklahoma breaking
barriers as the first non-binary state representative anywhere.

JOIN US: TRANS WEEK OF AWARENESS & TRANS DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
Join HRC and the Trans Justice Initiative for a week of programming focused on
the needs of the transgender and non-binary community, recognizing the annual
Transgender Week of Awareness and the Transgender Day of Remembrance. This week
is for everyone — and is a great way for those outside the community to gain
understanding and increase your abilities as an ally.

Monday: HRC’s Foundation will release a new report on the needs of transgender and
non-binary young people

Tuesday: Check out HRC’s social channels for a celebration of new transgender and
non-binary elected officials

Wednesday: Join us for an exclusive screening and discussion
[[link removed]] with the subject of the new documentary “Mama Gloria,” as well as the filmmaker
— a member of HRC’s Parents for Transgender Equality Council

Thursday: Join us for another exclusive screening and discussion
[[link removed]] , about the new documentary “Born to Be” about the importance of
trans-affirming health care

Friday: Join our Community Conversation with Survivors of Violence
[[link removed]] , featuring transgender advocates and family. And share our report on the
epidemic of violence, with calls to action for all.

IN MEMORIAM:

We would be remiss for not noting the passing of the iconic Ms. Monica Roberts. The New York Times wrote
[[link removed]] , “Ms. Roberts started her blog, TransGriot, in 2006, at a time when coverage
of transgender issues by the mainstream media was limited.” Monica served as a
loud and important voice advocating for trans individuals. She will be sorely
missed by all who knew her. Thank you for being a fierce warrior for justice.

ADVOCATE SPOTLIGHT: National Trans Visibility March and GOTV
[[link removed]]The National Trans Visibility March took place this year on October 3, 2020.
This was the second march and the first virtual hybrid event, including
livestreams, prerecorded messages and an advocacy tour around Washington, D.C.
Leading up to this year’s march, HRC partnered with the organizers on several
Get Out the Vote events, hosted by activist Ashlee Marie Prestion and HRC
President Alphonso David. These events helped address questions and inspire
trans and non-binary community members to vote this fall. By all accounts, these
events helped motivate new voters and change the trajectory of our country. Thank you NTVM for your leadership and advocacy.
