The historic voter turnout that we saw this year is a heartening sign of how activism like yours makes a major impact. When you text banked with us, when you voted, when you lifted up the call to vote in your communities—this is what you helped to achieve:
The Center’s RiseOut Action Team grew to become a group of 1,100 dedicated volunteers and counting
We reached more than 80,000 New Yorkers who live in areas with historically low voter turnout, giving them polling site information and tips to make sure their vote counted
A record number of LGBTQ candidates were elected across the country, including New York State lawmakers Mondaire Jones and Ritchie Torres, who are now the first openly LGBTQ Black members of Congress
And while this is a rightful cause for celebration and reflection, we know that much work remains to ensure our communities are truly equitable, affirming and safe. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to take part in our statewide LGBTQ advocacy initiative, RiseOut—whether it be by joining the RiseOut Action Team

Our annual Women’s Event is going virtual this year. It will focus on political activism and advocacy, with a panel discussion on the impact of the 2020 election season and the future for LBTQ women featuring Alicia Garza, Cecilia Gentili, Urvashi Vaid and LaLa B Holston-Zannell.
