** Dear Sister District DC/MD/VA Volunteers,
------------------------------------------------------------

From all of us at Sister District, we want to thank you so much for your contributions to Deb Ciamacca and Jonathan Kassa's campaign this year. And we wanted to let you know that both of our fabulous candidates, unfortunately, conceded their races this week. You can see final vote tallies here ([link removed][UNIQID]) (look for districts 151 and 168).

However, there are still some wins here. You donated over $25,000 to our candidates, and helped us make over 20,000 calls to PA voters, and ultimately those efforts helped deliver Pennsylvania for Biden and Harris! As we all watched the election results roll in, it was clear that every single vote in PA mattered.

Sister District nationwide also had at least 18 victories at that state level across the country, and these wins belong to all of us. Our work in Virginia in 2017 and 2019 also made itself clear in 2020--Biden and Harris won the state by 10 points, as well as easily re-electing a Democratic senator. This is no doubt due in part to the work of the Democratic legislature, which expanded early voting and made election day a holiday. Our victories there mattered, and will continue to do so.

What happened?
Dems were running on Republican gerrymandered maps, and the presidential ticket meant the Dem coattails for down-ballot candidates weren't as strong in some places. It was a red wave meeting a blue wave in turns of turnout, and it's also important to note that we'd picked off much of the low-hanging fruit in previous years. Additionally, the pandemic meant that we did not have much opportunity to knock doors, a tactic that traditionally favors Dems. This was also a shortened election season with historic amounts of early voting, which meant that candidates had less time to get the word out. And in Pennsylvania, specifically, Republican legislators removed an option on the ballot where voters were used to being able to vote straight-ticket in one check.

We chose these races because they're challenging, and this means some tough losses. But, there is value in running a race, even if we lose. We also cleaned the lists for future candidates in these districts, laid the foundation for future wins and strengthened the Democratic infrastructure by working directly with candidates and the party.

What's next?
We hope you'll join us next Wednesday night at 6:30pm EST ([link removed][UNIQID]) (our usual time and place) to celebrate our hard work and accomplishments (like becoming an absolute phonebanking juggernaut!!) and discuss how we can take action in the upcoming GA senate races. Sign up here ([link removed][UNIQID]) !

Thank you again, for everything, and we'll keep you posted on upcoming volunteer opportunities either in GA, or early next year for our next slate of races.

Stay safe!
