This past week, we marked the 25 year anniversary of the infamous 1994 Crime Bill. Its passage sacrificed communities of color to a radical expansion of mass incarceration.
Mandatory minimums. Tougher sentencing. A bill, drawn up by a bunch of politicians, cut programs that kept folks out of poverty and put them in prison instead ... at rates higher than ever before. Putting more people in prison hasn’t made us safer.
