We have heard directly from employers across the Capital Region that they need insight into how other companies are planning to reopen and greater confidence in the region’s transit system in order to safely return employees to worksites. Transportation agencies need to know when employees are expecting to return to worksites to better meet demand.

EY and the Greater Washington Partnership have partnered in a regional transit data project. The project launched on August 12 and is made up of two components: a 10-minute employer survey to collect a snapshot in time of return to worksite plans, and a report of the survey findings after it closes on December 11. The goal is to help our region plan for returning to the office safely.

On November 12, the Chamber wrote a letter in support of small business capital grants. Two-thirds of Arlington’s small businesses responding to a recent Arlington Economic Development survey identified access to capital as the most critical resource for success in the next six months. Our member businesses similarly have identified specific capital needs for safe operation. The Chamber believes that Arlington’s small businesses need further support, beyond existing programs such as Temporary Outdoor Seating Areas (TOSAs) and Pick-up/Drop-off Zones (PUDOs), to make it through the winter and the year ahead.

“Begin with the end in mind” is a motto frequently shared with students at the beginning of their educational journey at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). This motto reflects the importance of thinking through one’s educational and career goals in order to ensure a student pursues the most appropriate degree and selects the courses necessary to prepare them for their future endeavors. Many students who attend NOVA do so with the intent of transferring to a four-year college or university. While NOVA students transfer to a number of four-year schools, over 3,000 students per year choose to attend George Mason University (Mason).
