For dogs confined to a small patch of dirt, every lonely day spent outside is miserable. But as temperatures drop and freezing rain turns backyards into a muddy mess, their misery can quickly become a matter of life and death.
Right now in the areas our fieldworkers serve, "backyard dogs" lack adequate protection from the bone-chilling winter weather that's just around the corner. They desperately need a sturdy PETA-built doghouse to help them survive the long, cold nights to come.
Will you make a difference in the life of a lonely dog by donating right now? We need to secure $3,180 by midnight tonight to provide doghouses that will make the lives of 12 dogs a little more bearable this winter. Give as little as $2 today and our friends at v-dog will donate a bag of vegan dog biscuits.
It's hard to overstate how much four walls, a roof, and an elevated floor covered with fresh straw to curl up in can change a cold dog's life. While every dog deserves the comfort of a lifelong indoor home, if our fieldworkers can't persuade an owner to allow their dog inside, a PETA doghouse is often that animal's only chance at finding some escape from the deadly cold.
And our vital work for these dogs doesn't end after a doghouse has been delivered. Our fieldworkers go back to visit and ensure that water bowls aren't empty, frozen solid, or out of reach; replenish insulating straw bedding; and provide a toy and some deeply appreciated affection. Some owners are so moved by the compassionate care that PETA provides that they start taking their dogs for walks and inviting them inside the family home—often for the first time.
