Did you see Mark's message, John?

Since he sent around our petition on Thursday, more than 22,000 people have added their names to demand the new Senate finally pass universal background checks – but we just checked, and it looks like you haven't signed yet.

It's been almost two years since the House passed this critical gun safety legislation that we know would save lives, but the Senate has spent that time flat-out refusing to even vote on it.

When the new Senate session starts, we need to make sure that passing this background checks legislation is a top priority. With children's lives on the line, we cannot wait – and we cannot allow their inaction to continue. Will you sign our petition now so we can reach 30,000 signatures demanding the Senate pass universal background checks?

Subject: Please sign: Demand action on background checks

John,

When the Senate failed to pass background-check legislation after my sweet little Daniel was murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary, it absolutely crushed me – but I refused to give up.

Almost eight years later, I still haven't given up – and I won't stand by and let Congress give up either. The House has already passed a universal background checks bill, but the Senate has spent nearly two years flat-out refusing to vote on it. Their continued inaction is absolutely despicable.

Every single day the Senate fails to take action, more children's lives are at risk – so we have to make sure passing this lifesaving bill is a top priority when the new Congress is sworn in.

That's why we're gathering 30,000 signatures this week to demand the new Senate make passing this critical, bipartisan legislation a top priority. We're running out of time, so will you please sign our petition right now?

I can never get Daniel back. All I can do is work every single day to give him a legacy beyond his too-short life, and prevent other parents from experiencing the horror of losing a child to gun violence. I could never thank you enough for all you do to help make that possible.

Mark Barden (Daniel's father)
