Friend -- Rigging the maps in 2011 has paid off one final time for Republicans in Wisconsin. Preliminary results from last week's election show that even though Democrats won about 47% of the vote for state Senate races, they will only hold 38% of seats on the ballot.
"They were extremely efficient in drawing maps that produced an extreme gerrymander. I would say they went to town. It was very effective and has kept Republicans in the majority in the Assembly and the Senate for ten years." -- Barry Burden, director of the Elections Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison |
Luckily we have a chance to prevent another decade of lopsided power. Our team in Wisconsin is helping train folks to learn about the state's first-ever independent advisory redistricting commission. But we must keep our momentum going as we enter the redistricting process next year.
Can you chip in and help us end map manipulation in Wisconsin and across the country?
Earlier this year, A.G. Holder warned of the dirty tactics others would use to stay in power. When the gerrymandered Republican majority in Wisconsin refused to make it easier to vote safely during a pandemic, he called them out and said they forced "an almost impossible choice on the people they're supposed to represent" by making folks risk their health to vote in-person or not vote at all.
The All On The Line team is working to prevent map manipulators from drawing extreme gerrymanders -- because voters should be able to elect folks who will take action to solve the issues in their community. But we need your help.
Will you make a donation right now to help us end gerrymandering in 2021?
The GOP is undemocratically overrepresented. The election results for Wisconsin's state legislature are just one example of why we cannot let gerrymandered maps pass again next year.
This grassroots movement can end map manipulation and ensure fair elections for the next decade.
We're going to get it done,
