President Trump's dramatic shakeup at the
Pentagon is once again drawing the battle lines between the Empire's
geopolitical/war-hawk faction and the President's commitment to use
his presidency to end perpetual wars. The new acting Defense Secretary
Christopher Miller issued his first memorandum today, which includes
the following:
“We are not a people of perpetual war -it
is the antithesis of everything for which we stand and for which our
ancestors fought. All wars must end. Ending wars requires compromise
and partnership. We met the challenge; we gave it our all. Now, it's
time to come home. As I consider the scarring but ennobling experience
many of us have undergone during this war, the words of Abraham
Lincoln during his second Inaugural Address bring me strength,
perspective, and confidence: ‘With malice toward none; with charity
for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right,
let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation'
s wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his
widow, and his orphan -to do all which may achieve and cherish a just,
and a lasting peace, among ourselves, and with all nations.'”
