John, this election, we proved as a nation that nothing will stop us from making our voices heard and our votes counted. It’s time for us to move forward as a country and ensure a peaceful transition of power to a Biden-Harris administration.

But despite decisive results, the General Services Administration (GSA) is refusing to sign the transition paperwork and allow for a smooth transition of power. John, add your name now and tell the GSA to sign the paperwork and ensure a smooth, peaceful transition of power! [[link removed]?]

Impeding a peaceful transfer of power causes direct harm to our country. Until the GSA signs this paperwork, President-elect Biden is blocked from receiving crucial national security information like the Presidential Daily Briefing. His transition team is also denied access to federal resources that will ensure that Biden can fulfill his plans for his first 100 days in office — including his bold plans for executive action to address gun violence.
Voters made clear that we demand new leadership, and we cannot allow Trump to continue to endanger our progress. John, tell the GSA they must put the American people first and immediately move forward on a presidential transition of power!

Brady and Team ENOUGH Oppose Florida Gov. DeSantis’ Proposal to Expand "Stand Your Ground"

In 2005, Florida became the first state to pass a "Stand Your Ground" law [[link removed]] , legally allowing any citizen who believes their life to be in danger to use a firearm to shoot and kill another person. Now, Gov. Ron DeSantis wants to expand this dangerous and discriminatory law to allow citizens to shoot and kill if there is "looting" or an “interruption or impairment” of a business. This policy would legalize murder for property crime.
I
n 2020, we've seen more peaceful protestors met with violent resistance when rallying for racial equity and justice. Gov. DeSantis' proposal would add fire to the flame, allowing civilians to shoot and kill protestors.
Research shows that Florida’s implementation of its Stand Your Ground law led to a 24% increase in homicides and a 32% increase in firearm-related homicides specifically. Gov. DeSantis’ proposal would only further the senseless bloodshed. And already, this racist and discriminatory law has been used to justify the murder of Black and Brown Americans, including Trayvon Martin and Ahmaud Arbery. Now more than ever, Gov. DeSantis should pass legislation to reduce violence — not legalize and condone it.

Virginia Legislators Advance Major Police Reform

While national attention has been on election results, lawmakers in Virginia have continued to legislate to save lives. Late last month, Gov. Ralph Northam signed an entire slate of police reform bills into law. The new laws include common-sense measures Brady supports as part of our police reform platform [[link removed]] , including banning ‘no-knock’ warrants, limiting dangerous pressure holds, and standardizing law enforcement training procedures.

The measures will also further racial justice by diversifying the membership of the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Board to be more inclusive of communities of color. These reforms are a step towards reforming harmful and dangerous policing practices that disproportionately impact Black and Brown Virginians. Brady is thankful for Gov. Northam and the Virginia General Assembly for taking a step towards creating a fair and more equitable Commonwealth.

Timothy "TJ" Ryan served nearly 13 years in the U.S. Army as an Airborne Ranger. He had eight combat deployments to countries and was later diagnosed with PTSD. He soon became an advocate and artist dedicated to eliminating the stigma of mental health care and gun violence. TJ joins hosts Kelly and JJ, and Ted Bonar, a clinical psychologist specializing in military-related behavioral healthcare concerns, the treatment of PTSD, and suicide prevention. Together, they discuss what it means to be a veteran, what role gender plays in veteran suicide, and how we all can be better informed and understanding about suicidology.

Congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris! It's official, we've elected the most ambitious gun violence prevention administration our country has ever seen! We at Brady already have a long record of working beside President-elect Joe Biden. As a senator, Joe Biden fought alongside Jim and Sarah Brady to take on the NRA and pass the Brady Bill and a federal assault weapons ban. Now, it's time to do the same with a Biden-Harris Administration. [[link removed]] Brady looks forward to working with the strongest, most ambitious gun violence prevention administration in our history!

“Throughout 2020, I have faced violent resistance to peaceful protests for racial equity and justice. Gov. DeSantis’ proposed bill would pour fuel on that fire, tacitly permitting lethal force against protestors. In fact, we know that is precisely what Florida’s Stand Your Ground bill has been used for - research shows that the law is more likely to be used to ‘justify’ the murder of a Black victim by a white perpetrator and that the law has a ‘quantifiable racial bias.’ Gov. DeSantis’ proposal will kill Black and Brown residents. It’s unconscionable and disgusting.”
