Statement on the Election of Young Kim to the 39th Congressional District

ORANGE COUNTY, CA - Hon. Fred M. Whitaker, Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County, released the following statement:

"I want to congratulate Congresswoman-elect Young Kim on her victory in the 39th Congressional District over one-term Congressman Gil Cisneros.

Young's hard fought victory was our second congressional seat we took back from the Democrats after the 2018 "blue wave." Gil Cisneros got lucky when he won the lottery and used his winnings, along with outside far left donors, to win this seat in 2018. Today his luck ran out.

No amount of money, ads or mailers could make up for his non-existent presence in Congress or in his former congressional district. Young Kim and her team worked for every single vote and delivered a huge blow to Nancy Pelosi and the squad. She will serve her constituents with the same dedication and passion she served with under former Congressman Ed Royce.

Her victory, along with Michelle Steel's victory in the 48th Congressional District, is the second defeat of an incumbent Democrat Congressmember in California since 1994. The Orange County comeback is here. We will continue to build upon our 2020 victories to reelect our Republican Congresswomen and flip more Democrat seats in the years to come."
