Dear friend,

As many of you have heard, at midnight on Sunday, the United Auto Workers Union members at GM went on strike to fight for better pay, fair benefits, and job security.

Unions have always been the backbone of our society. They have fought for a fair work week, child labor laws, protections against discrimination, and dignity for workers, and even now they continue to fight for these things.

I am a proud supporter of unions. As the spouse of a retired public school teacher, I’ve seen first-hand the critical and positive impact that unions have had on our society.

Unions built the middle class in our country, and they protect the working class. I stand with UAW workers on strike and, always, with the fight for working people’s rights.
