Bo and Sam Halley were barely teenagers when their careers as chicken farmers began.
At the ripe age of 14, the twin brothers learned about the chicken business. Every year for nearly 30 years, they raised more than a million birds for meat.
But like many other farmer families, the Halleys found raising chickens to be a financial, physical, and emotional nightmare. Finally in 2020, they decided they’d had enough.
That’s when the Halleys turned to Mercy For Animals for help with their transfarmation.
Transfarmation empowers farmers to transition from raising animals to growing plants. Our team of crop experts, researchers, and economists facilitates these transitions by connecting farmers with the tools and people they need to successfully transfarm.
Their new hemp business has brought the brothers happiness and pride. The fear and frustration they felt as chicken farmers are gone.
“It’s been great to see Bo and Sam go from very troubled, angry, and broken people while the chicken houses were here to just flourishing with joy working with the plants. It just melts your heart. There’s no other way to say it. How can you not love that?”
