Hello Friends,

Although the results of the 2020 Election are not yet finalized, I couldn’t be more pleased with what we have seen so far here in Utah!

Republicans won every statewide race, starting with our Governor candidate, Spencer Cox. Virtually every Republican outside of Salt Lake County also won their races. We even had some unexpected successes in Salt Lake County, where Republicans retained a majority of the county council seats, won almost every legislative seat we were actively defending, and as of today, we appear to be on the path to victory in several countywide races as well.

Three of our four congressional nominees won their re-elections with incredible support: Rep. John Curtis, Rep. Chris Stewart, and Blake Moore, who won Utah’s First Congressional District with almost 70%! Finally, we are anxiously awaiting results from the Fourth District, where votes are still being counted, but Burgess Owens still holds a slight lead.

As you may have heard, the votes in Salt Lake County are still being counted, and vote totals are being updated daily. So while the results will not be finalized for several more days, we are thrilled to see so many of our candidates in these key races marching towards victory.

As I watched the national election coverage this week, I couldn’t help but be proud of Utah. Our legislature made adjustments to our election laws to ensure that the process functioned smoothly, unlike so many other states. As we near the end, it looks like we will have had a stunning 75% turnout, with the highest number of votes ever cast in a general election in Utah history.

I am incredibly proud of our candidates -- those who won, and also those who were not successful in the end. I can tell you from personal experience that it is no easy task to throw your hat in the political ring. Few things in life make one feel so vulnerable as the process of campaigning for office, and I have profound respect for anyone who does.

Finally, the presidential election certainly did not go the direction that we had hoped. As a party, we were hoping that the President’s impressive list of achievements would have resulted in a decisive victory. Though he received over 72 million votes--more than any presidential candidate in history before this year--the race ended up involving several battleground states with razor-thin margins, allegations of improprieties, and several lawsuits involving potential fraud in those states. As a party, we certainly support the President, and believe that the best thing for our country, and for whomever is eventually certified as the winner, is to ensure that any credible allegations are investigated, and the processes in place are followed. While the media has projected a winner, they are not the deciding authority on who the winner is. Under our system only those who certify elections may legally declare a winner. And, of course, the states need to do this by December 8th, as the Electoral College meets on December 14th. Americans of both parties need to know that the system electing our leaders is worthy of their trust.

It has been an honor to serve as your chairman during this election cycle. Thank you to so many of you who have been supportive of our efforts, who have donated, volunteered, and been a part of our candidates’ incredible successes.
