The founding principle of our democracy is that it is by and for the people.

The people choose their government, and their government serves the people -- not special interest groups or partisan priorities.

And here in CA-25, the people's right to decide their next representative in Congress will be protected. This race is neck-in-neck, and Republicans across the country have been making attempts to stop vote counts or invalidate results in close races like ours.

Right now, we're one of the last House races in the country that's still too close to call. It's so late that freshman House members are in DC today for orientation.

But we're still counting votes here in CA-25.

As of yesterday, we've received 49.97% of the vote to Mike Garcia's 50.03%. We've traded the lead several times. This is the definition of a deadlock.

John, we always knew this race would be close. But we also know that the people of this district are ready for change -- for a representative who will put the interests of our community before party politics.
