As POLITICO reports: "The lame duck period is always a time when outgoing presidents feel free to stir up controversy. Even presidents who care deeply about their legacies and abide by democratic norms often take uniquely unpopular actions in the closing weeks of their presidencies... So, imagine what might happen in a post-election period when Trump -- a president who has spent four years demonstrating his lack of interest in norms and practices of a democracy -- retains all the power and authority of the presidency and officially has nothing left to lose?"

Trump could very well go scorched-earth in his final months, and predictions of what that could mean are beyond grim: he could pardon his cronies, take revenge on 'the Deep State,' fire top officials en masse, destroy records and obstruct the incoming Biden administration, initiate military conflict, and give up on the pandemic.

But, as we have learned from this election: The people are not powerless.

Friend, we have time to prepare for the worst case scenario. We can make our voices of concern heard NOW, pressure those in office and those who will assume their appointments in January, and ensure that progressive interests are at the forefront of such discussions.

To win the most important fight of our lives, we had to give everything we got. But with Trump still in the White House, we cannot yet say the war has been won.
