Dear friends,

This November’s election was a victory ([link removed]) of our democracy, fueled by a racially diverse coalition of workers, young people, urban and suburban voters turning out in record-breaking numbers to cast their ballots and make their voices heard.

This election was an important step, and on Saturday, November 7, more than 1,000 essential workers, students, faith leaders, and community allies from throughout Massachusetts gathered in Copley Square for a rally and march ([link removed]) to protect our democratic processes and ensure that all our votes are counted while building people power and community beyond the elections. CLU is dedicated to continuing this critical work.

On November 19, we’re holding a rolling rally in downtown Boston to oppose deep service cuts and layoffs at the MBTA, which would have devastating impacts on working families and local communities. People can join us on foot, by car, bike, or online. The rolling rally will make its way past the State Transportation Building, where workers and riders affected by these deep cuts will be speaking. We are urging people to wear a mask and follow social distancing protocols. More information can be found on our Facebook page ([link removed]) .

Now more than ever, we must do everything we can to protect our public services and fight for a robust recovery that we deserve.

Please help us spread the word by sharing our Facebook ([link removed]) posts as well as following and retweeting us on Twitter ([link removed]) . You can also receive regular updates from CLU by signing up on our website ([link removed]) .

Demand the FMCB not gut the T

For the past several months, the Fiscal Management and Control Board (FMCB) has weighed dramatic service cutbacks ([link removed]) to the MBTA to address the drop in ridership revenues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now more than ever, we need a transit system that works for all riders. This means a safe, affordable, and accessible service for community members.

Join us ([link removed]) in fighting for a safer and more robust transit system. Write ([link removed]) to the MBTA’s Fiscal Management Control Board today and let them know that public transit is a public good and should not be cut!

Also, join us for a rolling rally on November 19 by foot, in your car, or online.

Take Action to Stop the MCAS for 2020-2021
Contact ([link removed]) your state representative and urge the Legislature to pass Amendment #460 ([link removed]) (COVID-19 MCAS Cancellation) to the state budget, which would cancel the tests for this year and waive the requirement that current high school seniors must have passed MCAS to graduate in the spring. Stand with educators in insisting that we focus during the pandemic on our school communities’ health and safety — not on following a disruptive and misguided MCAS plan.

Support Seniors: Close the SNAP Gap and Expand MSP!

Massachusetts tops the nation ([link removed]) for elder economic insecurity. Right now, hundreds of thousands of low-income individuals across Massachusetts may be going hungry tonight because they don’t know they are eligible for SNAP. The SNAP Gap ([link removed]) is the difference between the number of low-income Massachusetts residents receiving MassHealth who are likely SNAP-eligible and the number of people receiving SNAP.
Join ([link removed]) the Mass Senior Action Council by reaching out to your local State representatives to support Rep Ultrino’s amendment to expand the MSP to those at 200% of the federal poverty line. Sign the petition here ([link removed]) .

Contact your legislators for the Guaranteed Housing Stability Act!
HELP WIN THE GUARANTEED HOUSING STABILITY ACT – HD.5018 in the Massachusetts State House. Tens of thousands of families across Massachusetts will be at risk of eviction when our State’s eviction moratorium expires tomorrow. This bill will prevent a massive surge of unjust evictions and foreclosures due to COVID-related debt, avoid hikes of rent and no-fault evictions as we recover from COVID-19, and help establish a Housing Stability & Recovery Fund to relieve small business owners. Here is how you can take action:
* Call your legislators ([link removed])
* Email your legislators ([link removed])
* Call your legislators (Spanish) ([link removed])
* Email your legislators (Spanish) ([link removed])

Thank you for reading and taking action!

In Solidarity,
Community Labor United
