John,
Kashi* was born in Mumbai, India. But when she was five years old, she was kidnapped and trafficked to the home of a man named Naresh.*
Little Kashi was forced to clean and tend to the needs of Naresh, his family and their guests. Instead of a bed, she was told to sleep on the floor next to the bathroom, and if she ever complained, she was locked in a dark closet without food or water.
“Every time I raised my voice or objected to my work, I was beaten into silence. My words meant nothing to the family, and I was not allowed to leave or speak to anyone outside of the family.”
As Kashi grew older, the physical abuse only got worse, and young men in the family began to sexually abuse her. After nearly a decade of living, working and enduring abuse in their home, she was trafficked again — this time to a notorious red-light district called Sonagachi.

“Just hours later, I had to meet one “customer.” After that, I had to meet with 15-20 customers every day. If I refused to work, I was beaten with a broomstick, or a metal pipe, or anything they could find.”
When supporters like you sent IJM and local authorities to find Kashi, our teams couldn’t find her and were just about to leave when they saw something move behind a curtain. It was Kashi, shaking and afraid. Moments later, she was free.
The horrific reality that Kashi faced every day in the brothel is all too common for young girls who have been trafficked. With a gift today, you can help bring freedom and safety to vulnerable people like Kashi who have been silenced, abused and trafficked into slavery.

Today, Kashi is a strong advocate for other girls who are vulnerable to trafficking and abuse, saying, “I want one thing: what I have gone through to not happen to any other child.”
Give today, join Kashi in her fight to end trafficking and slavery and multiply your impact, up to $400,000!
