Yesterday morning, Delaware Senator Chris Coons, a Democrat, took a
dangerous and unthinkable position: He advocated that the United States
consider initiating a war with Iran.^1

It's essential that we push back against statements like Sen. Coons's
immediately—and make clear to other Democrats that they'll be held
accountable if they make comments that give ammunition to war hawks trying
to push us into a war with Iran.

get the message?

“Senator Coons going on Fox and giving ammunition to Trump administration
war hawks who are trying to push the U.S. into a costly, avoidable war
with Iran is shameful and beyond dangerous. His comments this morning,
within a context of inconclusive intelligence and innuendo, were reckless.
Senators need to be putting brakes on the march to war, not fueling it—and
need to be demanding the U.S. not take its marching orders from the Saudi
regime. MoveOn members in Delaware are reaching out to Senator Coons today
and asking him to pursue diplomacy, not war. We can only hope he listens.
Millions of lives depend on it.”

This weekend, the Trump administration's war hawks accused Iran of taking
action against sites in Saudi Arabia.^2 This has not been confirmed—but
already people in the White House are advocating for strikes against Iran.
Outrageously, Trump even said he's waiting for word from the Saudi
regime—not even our own intelligence agencies—as he considers military
action.^3

A war with Iran would be devastating, destabilizing the region and the
world. Sen. Coons shouldn't be rushing to judgment or pushing for war—no
senator should be, and Democrats especially should know better. We need
all of Congress to resist Trump's efforts to take reckless military
action.
