Dear John,
Thousands of voters called the Election Protection hotline on Election Day. Verified Voting worked alongside our coalition partners to troubleshoot issues and help callers from around the country.
As co-leads of the Election Security Working Group, we spent months training hundreds of volunteers on election technology basics and how to respond to some of the most common issues voters and poll workers might face. We recruited experts to provide dedicated support in 25 states and made sure that reports on election technology could receive rapid attention.
On Election Day itself, the Election Protection coalition knew they could use the Verifier to identify the equipment in use in each jurisdiction. So when questions arose about particular types of equipment causing problems or creating long lines, we jumped in with detailed explanations and user manuals, or when disinformation campaigns were circulating involving equipment or routine processes, we were able to debunk them with strong evidence.
And we’re still not done, because when it comes to making sure resources like the Verifier stay up-to-date, our work never stops. We’ve been building our one-of-a-kind election technology repository for over a decade. With help from supporters like you, we can continue to be there: assessing where election systems are most vulnerable, advocating for improvements based on hard data, and making sure that voters’ urgent election technology questions will have an accurate answer.
With thanks,
Cris Landa, Interim Co-Director
P.S. Resources like the Verifier (and the new Vote Visualizer Project) aren’t built in a day. If you share our belief that the most important preparations for Election Day begin long before the election, consider becoming one of our monthly supporters, and join us in the commitment to a stronger, more secure democracy.
