John,
I’m thrilled to report that last Thursday, the House passed our bill to block oil and gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
This comes after months and months of hard work—by activists, lawmakers, legislative staff members, and concerned citizens like you. I owe all of you a huge thank you for helping to make this happen.
Now the Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act moves on to the Senate, facing an uphill battle against obstructionists like Mitch McConnell and all the other GOPers who are willing to sell our most treasured natural resources to the highest bidder. Exacerbating the issue, the Trump Administration announced last week, they finalized the environmental review process which was required to be completed prior to any drilling taking place. They're speeding up their process and cutting corners to get the oil leases out the door because they know a full and fair review would never let them proceed.
That’s why I need you to once again step up and demand that the Republican leadership in the Senate vote on this bill as soon as possible. Please add your name right away!
The fact is that most Americans want to protect our environment and want to preserve this spectacular, wild, pristine part of our country. But the GOP consistently ignores what’s best for the American people and instead focuses on lining the pockets of Big Oil and special interests.
We need to seize on this critical moment and call on McConnell and Senate Republicans to do what’s right for our nation, our people, and our precious lands and waterways. The Senate must hold an up or down vote so people can see exactly where their representatives stand on this critical issue.
But that isn’t going to happen without your help right away. It’s time for every single one of us to hold these politicians accountable and demand a vote now.
Sign our petition and tell the GOP you want a Senate vote as soon as possible. With oil and gas companies eager to start buying leases to drill, we’re running out of time to act.
Thanks,
